Tuesday Night - alive and only somewhat frozen.
I am really over this shit. The fucking rhetoric from northern states being like boo-hoo poor Texan's can't handle some snow. REALLY.
I'm also very over the Texan's wanted this, this is how they voted. Texas is or is close to the most voter suppressed state in the country. Furthermore, every major city is blue. The gerrymandering here is fucking insane. My area snakes up the 35 to South Austin. Why? That's 70 miles away, it doesn't make any sense. It only makes sense in that it's a blue area.
Our infrastructure and homes are not suitable for cold weather conditions like this. My fucking house isn't even insulated. The power that we PAY for is not being provided to us because of some corporate greed bullshit that Abbott is blaming "green energy" on, when green energy makes up like 9% of the fucking energy supply in Texas. Rich neighborhoods have not lost power, low income neighborhoods are being asked to "conserve" and are subject to rolling blackouts that have not rolled for shit. Gas and coal energy factories are frozen.
I am lucky, I live in an older "middle class" neighborhood, yet technically in a low income zip code, but had power all day Monday. Power cut early Tuesday AM, out all day until the evening, on for four hours then off until 1PM today. The house has a gas range, which so thankful for that so I can cook and now, boil water since low PSI and broken pipes all over the city has created a water boil notice city wide.
After living for 9 years in San Diego, and now 5.5 years in South Texas, I do not own "real" winter clothes. I had no need for heavy duty coats and quality winter boots. I need to rectify this, and also buy a few essentials; rechargeable lanterns--maybe solar? Battery powered? At least 2 more 5 gallon refillable jugs (we use these anyway, and one recently started leaking so it needs to be replaced), more candles or larger wick/lighted space candles (def need a restock after this, I am basically out), and IDK, I'm open to suggestions on useful emergency kit items.
Anyway, it's Thursday, the power has been on for almost 20 hours straight, but it's been snowing all day. Tired of this shit. I am enjoying watching Ted Cruz get dragged on the news, he needs to fucking resign, he does nothing for this state. Why is Beto O'Rourke, who is no longer a state rep, making welfare calls to seniors and others in Texas, and fucking Cruz is going on vacation? And I don't give a flying fuck about the senate being on vacation, they have way too much time off as it is.
Alright, Saturday now. Snow is melted from the yard. All my cactus and succulents have died. The cactus bed that Miles and I put in the brick planter attached to our house, even covered, they froze. They are limp in the garden bed. I hope my Sago palms are old enough to survive, the branches are thinned out. those guys are old, at least 20 years. My avocado tree is still in my shower, it's now 54 degrees so I will put her outside, and I think my philodendron can go back into the sun room. What a fucking mess.

So glad you've made it through so far. A down coat and a down (real, not alterna down) blanket will do wonders. Cashmere sweater (Macy's has not expensive ones). Wool socks.
It is good to hear from you. I am glad you made it through. Some people up here have generators. That seems a bit extreme. I guess you will need to decide if you think this will occur more frequently. I think it will. Buy winter clothes now online. They are cheaper this time of year.
Having extra food and water around the house is always a good idea. I keep some of both. My state may be cold in the winter, but I admit, my area never gets the severe weather I see in other areas.
Hi, if you saw someone reading your last year's worth of blog posts it was me. If you also have a instagram follower you don't recognize, that's me too.
@Sarah, shoot me a DM so I can follow back. I had a few requests, as I don't have notifications on IG and I never notice that stuff (not saying this like I'm popular, lol)
